President's Message
Well, the weather is getting hot and so are the chapter activities. Lot’s of exciting news and events to talk about. But before I do that I would like to thank Marco Marrone, COO of Canadian Tire who came to speak to us at our Business Breakfast series. It was very interesting to hear his story and that of Canadian Tire. It was a great success with close to 100 in attendance.
Our second annual Aperitivo night is coming up June 27, 2013 and promises to be a very fun, interactive and social event. It is organized by our young/professional group (Oggi) who have put together an interesting evening where you will experience a “taste of Italy” with food, wine sampling, gelato sampling, music. It will be a great way to network and interact with your colleagues.
You will shortly be receiving Nomination forms to kick-off our Business Excellence Awards (BEA) event. This year’s BEA will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at Carmen’s. Please take the time to nominate an individual that you think would be worthy of receiving the Business or Professional Excellence Award. As we did last year, we will also be recognizing two individuals from our young/professional group which we hope through these awards will continue to inspire our young generation to move forward as successful entrepreneurs.
The executive also approved release of our Corporate Membership application form. Please take the time to review and see if it is the right fit for you and your organization. Business Breakfast Series with Marco Marrone
CIBPA HH welcomed keynote speaker Marco Marrone, Chief Operating Officer of Canadian Tire Retail & Executive Vice President of Canadian Tire Corporation Limited, as part of our Business Breakfast Series on May 14th. Held at Michelangelo Events & Conference Centre, the close to 100 attendees had the opportunity to hear about the key influences in Marco’s career path as he shared important lessons he has learned.
During his presentation Marco announced that after 27 years with Canadian Tire he had decided to leave the organization and was in the process of transitioning his responsibilities.
Raised in Niagara and a McMaster graduate, Marco’s formative years were spent in a part of St. Catherine's known as “Little Italy “, and were defined by his family and a close knit group of Canadian-Italians. His parents, who immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s, worked hard and instilled in both Marco and his sister a strong work-ethic and the value of an education.
Marco explained, “I am proud to have grown up in this part of the province, to have gone to school here and to live, work and raise a family in the area. In my life and my career to date I have always tried to be fearless, to never become complacent, to recognize the importance of teamwork and to look for ways to inspire people. “
All in attendance were grateful for Marco’s insights and pride in his Canadian-Italian Heritage and business success.

Keynote Speaker Announced for Awards Gala
We are very excited to inform you that we have confirmed Domenic Primucci President of Pizza Nova as our 2013 keynote speaker.
The Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Hamilton Halton Awards of Excellence were established to recognize and pay tribute to those individuals in the community who continue to make a difference in their professional and entrepreneurial fields. The recipients of the 2013 Awards of Excellence will be honoured at the 3rd Annual Business Excellence Awards Gala on Monday, September 23rd, 2013 at Carmen’s Banquet Centre in Hamilton, Ontario.
